Alicia attempts to revive her law career by working as a bond court attorney, representing indigent defendants and practicing privately. At bond court, she befriends a fellow attorney, Lucca Quin. Louis Canning tries to attract Alicia to work for him, but she rejects him utterly, and in so doing, decides to approve of Peter's VP campaign. Alicia's first case as a private lawyer incidentally has her up against Diane Lockhart and David Lee. Peter, rushing to launch into his VP campaign, decides to fire Eli and hire a national campaign manager, Ruth Eastman (Margo Martindale) which upsets both Alicia and Eli, who schemes to undo Ruth and Peter. Cary laments the outmoded work culture at Lockhart, Agos & Lee, and decides to open up to the younger associates.
